Days Out

Days Out

Denia
Approx 15 minute drive from Javea. Closest large town. Pretty ride over the mountain if you are not frightened of heights. If not, you can take the Jesus Pobre Road out of Javea which goes past the Marriott Hotel and La Sella Golf Course. Good shopping. Ferries to Ibiza/Majorca. Has train station. Lovely Marina area for lunch and drinks though not cheap. Nice to browse the huge selection of very expensive yachts.

Moraira
Approx 15 minute drive from Javea, through the village of Benitachell. Smaller than Javea and very pretty. Nice Marina, good bars and restaurants. Nice tobrowse. Two small sandy beaches, one Moraira and one El Portet. El Portet is very famous locally and well worth a visit. Follow sign posts. Parking however is a challenge!

Jalón Valley
Approx 40 minute drive from Javea through the village of Pedreguer or via Benissa which takes longer. Nice for a drive. Beautiful valley. Market on Saturday. Quite small with nice bars and restaurants. Many bodega’s where you can both sample and buy the local wine which is their speciality. Lots of good Restaurants with excellent menus of the day.

Fuentes de Algar - Waterfalls
Approx 45 minute drive from Javea along the N332. Lovely day here. Water always cold but in the summer heat its welcome. Variety of bathing pools. Very pretty, surrounded by natural park. Many tourist shops, bars and restaurants. Picnics not permitted however you do see people munching on sandwiches. Well priced bar and restaurant on site. Great fun for the kids. Not a lot of space to actually lay in the sun however. Head towards Alicante on the N332. In between Calpe and Altea you will see signs on the right for Callosa. Follow these and keep watch for the Font De Agua signs. It’s a worthwhile trip.

Guadalest
Approx 45 to 50 minute drive from Javea along the N332. A lovely small Spanish mountain top village. Offers fantastic views and a nice drive. Many enjoyable bars, restaurants and lots of tourist shops. Take the same direction as the Waterfalls i.e. N332 to Alicante. After Calpe you should see signs for Guadalest. You can do both waterfalls and Guadalest in a day.

Calpe
Approx 30 minute drive from Javea either along the N332 or via the Moraira coast road which is one of the prettiest drives you can find. Has a nice port area with numerous fresh fish stalls, bustling with vendors trying to co-erce you into dining with them. It’s a lot of fun and you need to barter and enjoy the free nibbly tempters from them all before you make a decision. Fairly good shopping area, good sandy beaches and huge selection of bars and restaurants.

Altea
Approx 40 minute drive from Javea either along the N337 or A7. Nice Spanish town. Lovely old town, quite a steep walk but fabulous views and lovely bars and restaurants in the courtyard. Nice sandy beach and large promenade area with lots of bars and restaurants facing the sea.

Benidorm
Approx 40 to 45 minute drive from Javea along the A7. The N332 will take longer as Benissa and Altea can become quite congested in the summer.

Terra Mitica – Theme park with a variety of rides. They have also opened a safari park in this area which has had great reviews.

Aqualandia – Water park full of fun for adults and children of all ages – McDonalds often give vouchers when purchasing meals offering discounts on entrance fees here. However its pariticipating outlets only and this may mean they are in the Benidorm area rather than Javea.

Mundomar – water type safari park, next to Aqualandia. Nice but not a whole days outing, not a lot to do. Great to see the Dolphin displays.

Benidorm Palace – Evening show with dinner if preferred. Great night out for a full evening of entertainment. Prices good.

La Marina Shopping Mall – Near Terra Mitica theme park. Not as big as UK shopping malls but okay.

Old Town of Benidorm is great for browsing shops or watching the world go by.

Huge sandy beaches and many boat rides
Very busy in the evening if you like lively bars and good fun.

Both Valencia and Alicante cities are worth a look if you have the time. However with so much to enjoy here you can just chill and plan to do it next time!

The above is only a few highlights. There are caves to investigate, Safari Parks in both Benidorm and Vergel plus many valley passes and quaint Spanish villages to discover.

Shopping – Use to be La Marina in Benidorm or Benidorm itself but in March 2008 the new shopping centre in Ondara opened up and it has been a huge success. Its very close and is about a 15 to 20 minute drive away. Once you are on the N332 heading in the Valencia direction, follow signs to Ondara (past Denia). You will see a new road to Ondara and you will see a roundabout with the centre on the left hand side. There are a few cafe´s, cinemas, large Eroski supermarket, lots of shops and a bowling alley.
